National Sports Teams Embracing Social Media

You would love to think you had the inside scoop on the play that won your team the big game on Sunday afternoon. That your team would like to know what you thought. How did it look from the stands? From your recliner?

More and more National Sports teams have taken to social media as a way of connecting with fans in a more personal environment. Social media may be out there for everyone to log into, but the information being posted often feels like a one-on-one conversation.

The use of Facebook and Twitter accounts has increased and is trending to a more engaging form of communication. Once used as information sharing environments, the social media networks are now talking to fans on a regular basis. This engagement is speculated to increase fan loyalty.

Sure, restrictions have been put into place to monitor the timing of the updates and tweets by major sports teams. Players, coaches and staff cannot afford to be distracted from the game because they were more interested in posting a tweet. Seems like fans have been taking over those responsibilities when their players are otherwise occupied. Fans see firsthand what developed in the play and what the TV cameras may have missed.

Fans like to feel like they are a part of the player’s life. Not all fans can be at every game. They can’t catch every newscast about game. They can spend 10 minutes scrolling through updates to make them feel like they were a part of the game. Even make their own, personal comments and suggestions.

Social Media has given sports fans a front-row seat to all the action.

Archives
