It seems that some big things are occurring over in the land of Google. And whenever Google decides to make some big changes, it seems to polarize the community of online businesses. Before jumping to any conclusions, let us analyze what these changes mean for you and your business.
Recently, Google announced that they will be implementing new privacy and security measures to protect the user data of those who have registered accounts on google.com. We've been recieving some alarmed calls from clients, so we wanted address the changes. Basically, for anyone using Google for email, Google Docs, Google+, Blogger, etc. your user data and search information will now be protected. This sounds great, right? So why do people seem to be so aggravated?
The side effect of this change means that the tracking of searches through Google Analytics will no longer be available for individuals who are logged in to their Google user account at the time of searching. So what does this mean for your website? When you are reviewing Google Analytics, you will no longer be able to see what keyword search terms a logged-in Google user searched to arrive at your site.
Sounds like a drastic measure right? Not really. While many people fear that this will dramatically (and negatively) impact their analytics reports, Google's own Matt Cutts has stated that even when fully implemented it will only affect "single-digit percentages of all Google searches" on google.com.
What you need to remember is that the spirit of this change is dedicated to the end-user. If you are a Google fiend like me, this means better encryption and protection for all of your online activities. Stay tuned for further insight once the new changes have been implemented!
